The balance of the Rof 2016 was presented at the offices of the Regione Marche. Beside the Director of the Festival, the Deputy Mayor of Pesaro Daniele Vimini and Ivana Jachetti, representing the Marche region, also took part.
The balance of the Rossini Opera Festival 2016 confirmed the numbers estimated last summer. The box office took in the absolute record sum of ticket sales (1.158.451,50 Euros) and a number of audience members (17.248) never before registered in the event’s recent history. Also unprecedented was the number of foreign visitors, which even reached the sum total of 71%: as many as 42 nations were represented, with France, Germany, Japan, England and the USA leading.
A great many of the journalists also come from abroad: publications from 33 different countries of the world have printed articles on the Rof. Rai Radio3 has broadcast live on Euroradio the operas presented in the Festival, which were then transmitted by the radio in 14 countries on three continents. Furthermore the three operas were heard all over the world live online and, for a week, in streaming on demand on the Rai Radio3 website. Il viaggio a Reims on the 12th August was broadcast in live streaming on the website, on the Facebook page and on the Rossini Opera Festival YouTube channel.
The presence of young people continues to increase: more than 500 people under 26, thanks to the special discounts such as Biglietto Giovane for performances in the Adriatic Arena, the Easy Rof subscription for students of the Conservatorio G. Rossini and the presence of bundles of reduced-price tickets for all the Festival performances. But the young people’s interest in the Rof is not only the result of a reduced-price policy: the fifth edition of Crescendo per Rossini, the didactic activity introduced by the Festival into primary and secondary schools of the province, has involved 32 classes of 12 schools in the province, with a total of about 800 children. 300 of these, furthermore, attended the ante-dress rehearsal of La donna del lago together with their teachers. All through 2016 the intense publicity campaign sustained by the Festival in collaboration with Italian cultural institutes throughout the world was continued. Cycles of video-projections and recitals were held in the institutes in Sydney, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dublin. The high point of the season was reached with the celebration of Rossini’s birthday in Hamburg, Dublin, Istanbul, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York (at the Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimò), and Sydney.
The XXXVIII Rossini Opera Festival (10-22 August 2017) will offer, in collaboration with the Fondazione Rossini, the first performance of the critical edition of Le siège de Corinthe (conducted by Roberto Abbado and with the stage direction entrusted to La Fura dels Baus). The other productions will be La pietra del paragone (conducted by Daniele Rustioni with stage direction by Pierluigi Pizzi), which has not been performed in Pesaro for fifteen years, and the very rare Torvaldo e Dorliska (conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta with stage direction by Mario Martone). As always, the prospectus is completed by the Festival giovane production of Il viaggio a Reims (and Il viaggetto a Reims dedicated to children) as well as a dense programme of concerts, lectures and various activities; the Festival will end with the Stabat Mater transmitted live in video in Piazza del Popolo.
