The Rossini Opera Festival remembers Alberto Zedda
7 March 2017

The Rossini Opera Festival is mourning Alberto Zedda along with his family.

Maestro Zedda was first consultant and then Artistic Director of the ROF from the very beginning, he was a protagonist of the Rossini Renaissance and an invaluable guide for a new generation of singers  of the Accademia Rossiniana which he created, directed and founded.

The Sovrintendente Gianfranco Mariotti  was his lifelong friend and this is how he remembers him: “With Alberto I shared a long and exhilarating adventure while rediscovering the unknown Rossini operas. An adventure filled with hope, anxieties, battles and common victories. A lifelong friendship in which we shared common interests and inclinations. In this moment of sorrow and mourning I’m comforted by the thought that Alberto has had the privilege of living the life he always wanted, he was an accomplished man in every field and had the luxury to work, as he wished, till the last day of his life.

Alberto Zedda was born and completed his humanistic and musical studies in Milan. After he won the RAI competion for orchestra conductors in 1957 he went on conducting in the most prestigious theaters in the world. He was  also an invaluable musicologist and devoted his life to teaching.

He was a member of the editorial committee of the Fondazione Rossini; artistic consultant for the Festival Valle d’Itria and the Mozart Festival of La Coruña, Artistic Director of The Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, of the Teatro alla Scala, of the Fano Baroque Festival and of the academy for professional singers Placido Domingo in Valencia.

At the Rof he was the artistic consultant from 1981 to 1992 and Artistic Director from 2001 to 2015. He directed the Accademia Rossiniana from its founding.
