The Petite messe solennelle for Rossini's birthday
23 February 2018

The Petite messe solennelle will be performed on Wednesday the 28th February at the Teatro Rossini as the main event in the week of birthday festivities for Gioachino Rossini inaugurating the year dedicated to celebrating the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death.

The concert has been organized by the Conservatorio Rossini, the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” of the Rossini Opera Festival, the Comitato Nazionale per le Celebrazioni dei Centenari Rossiniani, the Pesaro Town Council, AMAT and the Fondazione Rossini.

The event, which will inaugurate the academic year of the Conservatorio, is the result of a projected  collaboration between the various Rossinian institutions that was promoted, among others,  by Alberto Zedda: this is why the Petite messe solennelle will be dedicated to him, on the first anniversary of his death.

The score will be performed in the original version of 1863 with an accompaniment for two pianos and harmonium.  The singers will be four brilliant pupils who have studied in the Accademia Rossiniana courses: Lucrezia Drei (soprano), Valeria Girardello (contralto), Oscar Oré (tenor) and Roberto Lorenzi (Bass), accompanied by Lorenzo Bravaj and Ludovico Bramanti at the piano and Giovanna Franzoni at the harmonium. The Conservatorio Rossini Chorus will be conducted by Aldo Cicconofri.

Tickets (from 5 to 25 Euros) are on sale at the Teatro Rossini box office, Pesaro (0721.387620/1) from Wednesday to Saturday from 5.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. and on

The Petite messe is part of the “Happy non-birthday Rossini”, a week of concerts, operas, children’s workshops, film projections and meetings that will celebrate Rossini’s birthday from the 23rd February to the 4th March, promoted by the Comitato Nazionale per le Celebrazioni dei Centenari Rossiniani, the Comitato Promotore delle Celebrazioni Rossiniane, the Pesaro Town Council, the Regione Marche, the Ministry for the arts, cultural events and tourism, and AMAT in collaboration with the Conservatorio Rossini, the Fondazione Rossini, the Rossini Opera Festival and the Sistema Museo.
