Rossini anniversaries
Since 2016, the ROF has participated every year in the Settimane Rossiniane, a calendar of events to celebrate the (non) birthday of Gioachino Rossini, who was born in Pesaro on 29 February 1792. The initiative is organised by the Municipality of Pesaro, Amat, the Ministry of Culture and the Marche Region, with the participation of the main cultural institutions of the city.
Over the years, the Festival, in collaboration with the Rossini Conservatory and other musical institutions of the city, has proposed concerts and opera productions to mark the anniversary: Il barbiere di Siviglia (2016), La Cenerentola (2017), La Petite messe solennelle (2018), La cambiale di matrimonio (2019), a concert on the steps of Palazzo Montani Antaldi (2020), the concert Auguri Rossini! (2021), Tancredi (2022), the concert Mi lagnerò tacendo (2023), the Messa di Gloria (2024).
In 2018, as part of the Rossini150 project to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death, the Municipality of Pesaro involved the Rossini Institutions in the annual commemoration of the date of the composer’s death (13 November 1868). The ROF organised two concerts: on 13 November, the Stabat Mater at the Teatro Rossini; on 14 November, the Petite messe solennelle at the Grand Amphithéâtre of the Sorbonne University in Paris, where Rossini died.
In the years that followed, the Festival organised other musical events to commemorate the date of his death: The Petite (jazz) messe solennelle performed by Paolo Fresu, Uri Caine and Daniele Di Bonaventura (2019), two piano recitals by Alessandro Marangoni from the Péchés de vieillesse (2020 and 2021), Rossini e dintorni with violinist Giovanni Andrea Zanon and pianist Leonora Armellini (2022) and a recital by pianist Francesco Libetta (2023).
