L’equivoco stravagante

On the 8th of August, Teatro Rossini will stage the premiere of L’equivoco stravagante, which was met with great success at ROF 2019. Michele Spotti will conduct the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini and the Chorus of Teatro della Fortuna in a production conceived by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, with sets by Christian Fenouillat, costumes by Agostino Cavalca and lighting by Christophe Forey. The cast includes Maria Barakova (Ernestina), Nicola Alaimo (Gamberotto), Pietro Adaíni (Ermanno), Carles Pachón (Buralicchio), Patricia Calvache (Rosalia) and Matteo Macchioni (Frontino). Performances will also take place on the 12th, 16th and 21st of August.

L’equivoco stravagante, a dramma giocoso in two acts with a libretto by Gaetano Gasbarri, was first performed at Teatro del Corso in Bologna on the 26th of October 1811. The cast of the first performance included Maria Marcolini (Ernestina), Tommaso Berti (Ermanno), Domenico Vaccani (Gamberotto), Paolo Rosich (Buralicchio), Angiola Chies (Rosalia) and Giuseppe Spirito (Frontino).

In the absence of the autograph manuscript, the critical edition was prepared by comparing the surviving 19th-century sources, particularly utilising a copy preserved in Paris.
