Il barbiere di Siviglia

The fourth opera in the programme, Il barbiere di Siviglia, will be staged at Vitrifrigo Arena from 10th August. This production, which received widespread acclaim at ROF in 2018 and was revived in the autumn edition of 2020, was conceived by Pier Luigi Pizzi and will be conducted by Lorenzo Passerini, leading the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini and the Chorus of Teatro Ventidio Basso. The cast includes Maria Kataeva (Rosina), Andrzej Filonczyk (Figaro), Jack Swanson (Conte d’Almaviva), Carlo Lepore (Don Bartolo), Michele Pertusi (Don Basilio), Patrizia Biccirè (Berta), William Corrò (Fiorello/Ufficiale). Additional performances are scheduled for 15th, 18th and 22nd August.

Il barbiere di Siviglia, originally titled Almaviva or L’Inutile precauzione, is a comic melodrama in two acts with a libretto by Cesare Sterbini. It premiered at Teatro Argentina in Rome on 20 February 1816, with the first cast including Emanuele Garcia (Almaviva), Bartolomeo Botticelli (Bartolo), Geltrude Righetti-Giorgi (Rosina), Luigi Zamboni (Figaro), Zenobio Vitarelli (Basilio), Elisabetta Loiselet (Berta) and Paolo Biagelli (Fiorello). The opera is based on Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais’s 1775 play Le barbier de Seville ou La précaution inutile.
